PPASS is a new support service which is available to parents living in the Neath Port Talbot and Swansea Local Authority Footprints who are involved in child protection cases.

Supporting Parents to have thier voice heard

PPASS is a new service supporting adults involved in child protection cases PPASS is Independent from Social Services, and is delivered by and advocate and support staff employed by Mental Health Matters Wales.

What we do

Empowering through Inclusivity

We provide parents with advocacy support and general support to empower parents who are involved with child protection services

Our Staff

Our advocate and support workers have lived experience of child protection services. and are independent from Social Services

Advocacy and Support

Advocates strengthening rights and representation for parents. Support Workers work with the Advocate to provide addtional support to you

Accessible

Our advocate or support workers will, when possible arrange to meet you at times and locations suitable to you

How we Help, The Advocate and Support Workers

How PPASS can help

  • Help parents to understand the decisions that are made about them/their child
  • Help parents to understand the importance of engaging in activities/actions demanded by social services/courts as part of the child protection plan
  • Help parents to express their views and wishes to ensure they have been heard
  • Speaks on parents’ behalf if they are unhappy about the way they are being treated by social services or they are worried about plans being made
  • Hels parents to understand their rights
  • Help parents to make a complaint

The Advocates Role

  • Accompany parents at child protection conference, reviews or court hearings
  • Support parents at meetings with professionals
  • Meet parents to prepare for or follow up child protection conferences/reviews/court hearings/other meetings with Professionals to ensure that parents understand decisions and actions

The Support Workers Role

  • Supports parents through the complexities of child protection process
  • More positive outcomes for children and parents
  • Reduces demand for future support service
  • Contributes to reduction in number of cases taken to court
